In these pages various forms of classroom practice are illustrated through video sequences as a basis for reflection and discussion. The pages are a resource financed by the National Distance Education Network for Higher Education (SOFF) and created with the cooperation of 5 University Colleges in Norway. The resource is designed to be used in 30 and 60 credit courses for English teachers (both campus based and web based), and for in-service training. It is also suitable for use by groups of teachers or individuals. How to use the website The material consists of a number of sequences of video clips both of the class in action and also of the teacher talking about what she does. Each video clip is accompanied by a short introduction, questions for the viewer to think about before looking at the video, questions to think about while viewing the video and a number of discussion questions for use after seeing the video.Clearly we are not going to show examples of bad teaching, rather of different approaches to teaching, and we are trying to present you with open questions which will lead to discussion of a variety of approaches to teaching English. After each sequence there are also suggestions for further reading and links to websites which are relevant to the topic. In the further reading you may also find opinions which differ from those of the teacher, and it would be interesting for you to discuss and compare. The sequence called "Writing from Different Perspectives" is organised differently but still contains questions for reflection and discussion. How to give us feedback We are interested in hearing from users of the material and would welcome comments on content, layout, user-friendliness and any problems with downloading the video sequences. We expect to add new material and further develop exisiting material in the light of comments made by users. Please send comments or questions to us here. Viewing the videos Viewing video needs a fast network connection.Longer teaching sequences have been cut into shorter extracts to aid viewing. We offer the sequences in two different qualities. Mpeg gives good sound and picture quality but takes up a lot of computer memory. If you have difficulty in viewing this on your computer, please try the streamed video. This is downloaded continuously and uses much less memory, but the quality will be poorer.
